Police in Lamu has arrested two men accused of gang-raping a mentally ill woman Monday, September 13.
According to a report by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), 43-year-old Hiribae Kokane and 45-year-old Shadrack Murimi Maina were on a mission to help the vulnerable woman when they turned on her, subjecting her to the inhuman act.
The duo had accompanied Nyumba Kumi elder Samuel Ngumi to a patrol when they found the woman in the area known for criminal activities.
Ngumi asked the two men to watch over the middle-aged woman as he sought help elsewhere only to come back and find them raping her.
The elder alerted other residents as they helped the woman and turned in Murimi and Kokane to the police.
The victim was rushed to a nearby Hindi Magogoni Dispensary where she undertook medical examination.
The officers urged the area residents to report more of such crimes to help curb the increasing sexual assault in the area.
