Kapkatet hospital in Kericho will have to dig deep into its accounts after finding itself at the centre of an ugly scenario of medical negligence where an unconscious patient was declared dead and the body transferred to the facility’s mortuary.
In the ongoing probe under the senate health committee, members have promised that justice will be served to the family even though the victim passed away a few days after the traumatic ordeal.
The victim, identified as Peter Kigen is reported to have woken up while morgue attendants were cutting part of his body in preparation to preserve the body.
The cut inflicted a lot of pain on him that he wailed so loudly attracting the attention of those who were outside.
Plans are underway to summon Dr. Titus Ngululu who conducted the postmortem.
“The report on the death of Kigen was misleading and there is a possibility that Dr Ngululu excluded very sensitive information after the wrongful declaration that he was already dead,” Senator Abdullahi Ali said.
The senators now suspect that morgue preservation chemicals might have had a hand in his death thereafter.
