Police have arrested the contractor of the two-storey building that collapsed and killed three people yesterday 13th September in Mamboleo Kisumu County.
Police confirmed that they have arrested the contractor Gilbert Aono and he is being held at the Kondele Police Station and he will be arraigned in court today 14th September while the police have launched a manhunt of the owner of the collapsed house who is still at large.
The three people who died as a result of the collapsed building have been identified as Victor Odhiambo aged 29, Florence Odhiambo, 25, and Beatrice Awuor aged 30.
Their bodies were moved to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary, while the survivors are receiving treatment at the same hospital.
The rescue operation was called off yesterday in the evening after the authorities said that they believe that no one was left inside the debris.
According to the witnesses, the building had visible cracks and eventually collapsed at around 13:30pm.
Regional Coordinator of the National Construction Authority (NCA) Eng. Amos Musau said the authority in August 2020 issued the owner of the building with a notice for closure for not adhering to building regulations.
According to the residents, trouble started on Thursday night when the caretaker noticed cracks and alerted the owner.
No one was fatalities or injuries recorded.
Police and National Construction Authority (NCA) were alerted and are currently at the scene for any eventually as the evacuation of valuable continues.
