The International Criminal Court has sought permission to extract evidence from DP Ruto’s file that will be used against lawyer Paul Gicheru for witness tampering in the case of Ruto and journalist Joshua Arap Sang.

“ICC allows evidence extracted from DP William Ruto’s file to be used against lawyer Paul Gicheru who is facing witness tampering charges,” read the report.

It has been affirmed that the transcripts being authorized to be extracted from DP Ruto’s file contain a record of several witnesses who testified against DP Ruto and could not be traced.

Trial Chamber Three judge, Miatta Maria Samba, issued a direction informing that, “The Chamber hereby orders the Registry to transfer the transcripts and related material, as listed in Part I and II of filing ICC-01/09-01/20-151-Conf-AnxA, into the record of this case. The prosecution to inform the defense under regulation 42(2) of the regulations of the Court of the nature of the protective measures concerning the witness.”

Today’s developments marks the first instance for Deputy President William Ruto and Joshua Arap Sang’s files to be revisited five years after their ICC case was wound up.
